The Te Awamutu Events Centre hosted the 2018 Caro Cup Relay Meet on Sunday the 19th, with almost 180 swimmers, aged 13 and under, competing across five relay races. This is the third year of the Caro Cup event which is fast becoming a real highlight on our Junior calendar.
The idea behind this competition was to resurrect the Caro Cup which was contested between Hamilton and Auckland back in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
At Sunday’s event, the Waikato team was resplendent in their yellow and black singlets and their representative caps. MC Kieran McCarthy, showing some slight bias to the Waikato team, opened with ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rumble’ and the next two hours saw the 180 young swimmers from Auckland and the Waikato cheering for their teammates and giving it 110% in every single swim.
Thanks so much to our team of volunteers who manned the control room, managed teams, counted heads, handed out team uniforms and were timekeepers, photographers and cheerleaders.
Auckland took the honours on the day but the great news is the points differential is definitely getting closer.
Keep an eye out for an exciting new addition to the Caro Cup programme in 2019 !
