Day Five Results for the 2018 NZ Short Course Champs

That’s all from the final day here at the New Zealand Short Course Championships here in Auckland. As the sun drops, signifying the end of these championships, we can now begin to reflect on what has been a very positive performance from the Waikato clubs.
.
It was yet another night of BIG SWIMS from the Waikato contingent with impressive swims from Vanessa Ouwehand (STP) in the 200 Fly, Andrew Jeffcoat (FFD) & Paige Flynn (STP) in the 50 Back, all taking the national titles with FINA B CUTS! This takes the tally to 5 swimmers from the Waikato who will represent NZ at the World Short Course in China.
.
One of the positives from the meet has been the performances of a number of our younger age-group swimmers, they have had a largely process driven attitude from Day 1 to 5 and have in many cases showed maturity beyond their years. Yes, there was a big medal tally for these swimmers but the main reward has been the competitive experience and the valuable feedback that will help to support their future development into their senior competitive years.
.
It has also been great to see several of our senior swimmers stepping up and racing without fear and having what seems to be a bloody good time. Their actions and positive attitude have been infectious throughout their respective camps and throughout the regional clubs, they have been fantastic ambassadors for their individual teams and for the Waikato.
.
Another special mention to Matt Hyde (MAT), Gina McCarthy (HIL), Paige Flynn (STP), Vanessa Ouwehand (STP) and Andrew Jeffcoat (FFD); congratulations to you, your Clubs and Coaches on selection to compete for NZ at the WORLD SHORT COURSE CHAMPSIONSHIPS in China!
