Ciaran Watson starting swimming with his mum when he was 3 months old and has now been swimming with a club for 6 years and competitively for 5 years.
He is in one of the top academic bands at school and not only swims but also plays football in the winter and cricket in the summer. He is constantly juggling the challenges of managing homework, sport and swimming together with a social life all at the same time. “It’s quite difficult but I manage to get it all done”.
In a typical week he attends 5-6 trainings a week and Ciaran is part of Swimming Waikato’s Pathway Squad and was a member of the Waikato Caro Cup team in 2016 and 2017.
Ciaran is inspired by role model Michael Phelps and his phenomenal success. “I enjoy watching him race, I like the way he acts around the media and the fact that he is really humble and goes out and gets the job done!”.
His top tip for younger aspiring swimmers is:
RELAX AND ENJOY IT. Make sure you are enjoying it and go hard.
