In early 2015, Swimming Waikato was approached by the owner of a small swim school in Paeroa who was moving out of the region and wanted to pass her swim school over to a community focused organisation who saw the importance of the delivery of affordable swimming instruction for children. Although delivering swimming is not a key priority for Swimming Waikato, we were excited to have the opportunity to be involved in a grassroots swimming programme.
Our Swimming For Life Swim School operates out of Goldfields School which has a fantastic indoor heated learners pool that is used by the school children and our swim school all year round. We’re excited to be using our Swimming For Life’ resources which have been developed by very experienced LTS teachers who are part of the Swimming Waikato team and we’re getting some great feedback from the families of these young swimmers about the great progress that is being made in the water.
Each week, almost 100 youngsters attend lessons at Goldfields, with many already progressing to lessons at the Paeroa Public Pools. Our vision is to see more and more Goldfields swimmers progress through the levels to attain the skills required to join the Paeroa Swimming Club and become capable and confident competitive swimmers.
