Regional Squads Program

Over the last seven years Swimming Waikato has put in place the foundations of our Regional Swimmer Pathway to encourage the development of a sustainable performance environment and culture within the Waikato and Counties-Manukau. Our ability to adapt is key to building a strong swimming culture in both regions and throughout the country. The Regional Swimmer Pathway is one such adaptation, one that holistically looks at how we can improve the sport for our swimmers.

2023/24 will see a significant shift in how we support our developing age and high performing ends of our squads’ structure. We will continue our shift to a support-based model where swimmers in our potential squad, youth performance and performance squads will see initiatives introduced around swimming meets and prep days to allow our swimmers to have wider practice and experience with services that are more commonly associated with High Performance environments.
We believe this will help to bridge the gap of understanding our young athletes might have, learn how to use these tools effectively and continue to develop their own ideas about what tools work for them in their performance planning.
