We have had an exciting few weekends with plenty of Swimming Waikato initiatives being rolled out throughout the region. Here’s a small snippet of what’s been going on in our World.
Team Waikato – Morrinsville Part Deux
Firstly we had the second instalment of our Waikato Team training session in Sunny Morrinsville; this session was for those swimmers preparing to compete in Australia.
We were fortunate enough to have the travelling Coaches, Mat Woofe (HAM), Alison Fitch (STP), Graham Smith (SPC) on deck, alongside team-managers Angela Bourke & Rachael Thomas. If this wasn’t enough, we also had the fantastic support of our team Physio, Kim Deane and Nutritionist, Lillian Morton on-hand to provide useful information and advice for the team whilst in OZ.
Para-Swimming Camp
Running at the same time as the Morrinsville Session, we also had our Swimming Waikato Para-Swimming Camp in conjunction with United Aquatic Sports and supported by Parafed Waikato.
We had an absolutely star-studded line-up for the swimmers, with Graeme Maw – Para Swimming Programme Leader, Cameron Leslie – National Para-Swimming Dev Officer, and Jesse Reynolds – Waikato & NZ Paralympian. A huge thank you to all coaches and volunteers for giving up your valuable time for these fantastic swimmers and for your continued support.
Kick Start Technique Clinic – Waihi
On Saturday 30th of November, we hit the road and visited our friends over in Waihi, where we conducted our second Kick Start Clinic of 2019. It was a beautiful day and we had a fantastic turn-out of swimmers from the Waihi and Thames Swimming Clubs, all who brought bags of energy and enthusiasm.
The swimmers had the fortune of working with Coaches, Ross Fisher (SPC) and Chloe Green (THA), as well as being supported by Regional Squad Swimmer, Danyon Hardie and Regional Hub Director, Darren Ward.
The standard of swimming on show was really encouraging as was the level of attention to detail and the focus of the swimmers throughout; It was also great that nobody noticed that we ran 40 mins over in the pool!
Thank you to Tess Hennessey (Waihi Swimming Club) for all your support and hard work behind the scenes and to the Waihi Swimming Club for the fantastic BBQ, you made us all very welcome.
