BlueFloat Energy & Elemental Group announce new sponsorship of Swimming Waikato, allowing more kids to experience swimming through the “Have a Go” initiative.

Swimming Waikato is excited to announce our new partnership with BlueFloat Energy New Zealand and Elemental Group to sponsor our “Have a Go” swimming programme. The initiative is intended to encourage a love of safe swimming and provides goggles, caps, training and access to pools for tamariki who might not otherwise have the opportunity to give swimming a go.

This new sponsorship is the first for BlueFloat Energy and Elemental Group who have partnered together to help develop the offshore wind industry in New Zealand. In November 2022 the partnership announced plans for an offshore wind farm around 22 kilometres off the coast of Raglan. Named the Waikato Offshore Wind Project it is an 810 MW development that would generate enough electricity to power up to 400,000 local homes.

Nathan Turner, Country Manager for BlueFloat Energy New Zealand says that the partnership is focused on supporting local organisations in communities where we plan to operate and that align closely with our purpose and values.

“We are keen to return benefits to the local communities where we will develop and operate our wind farms and we have specifically sought out organisations that are working in and around the marine and coastal environment. Swimming is an essential skill in Aotearoa, whether it is in a pool or at the beach, and we are really thrilled to be supporting Swimming Waikato to help make swim skills more accessible to anyone who wants to have a go,” says Turner.

The new sponsorship comes shortly after the Waikato Regional Water Safety Strategy 2023-30 was released with a commitment to improving water safety and lowering the rate of preventable drownings in the region. Swimming Waikato are key partners and supporters of the strategy and play a crucial role in the region in teaching kids how to be safe in the water.

“We believe firmly that every Kiwi possesses the inherent right to enjoy the rivers, beaches, and lakes of New Zealand while also having the essential knowledge to ensure their safety and the safety of others. Providing opportunities for tamariki to participate in swimming at a local community club or facility also opens the door to numerous physical water-based activities, all of which contribute to long-lasting health and well-being benefits.

We are delighted to have BlueFloat Energy and Elemental Group onboard as our sponsors for the “Have a Go” programme and we look forward to working with them over the coming years,” Darren Ward, CEO
