The 2019 Swimming Waikato Pathway Squad were in action this weekend at the 2019 Bay of Plenty Short Course in Tauranga. The group of 18 swimmers were accompanied by the Pathway Squad Coaching Group lead by Ross Fisher (St Paul’s) and supported by Libby Gray (Thames), Helen Barr (St Peter’s) and Darren Ward (Swimming Waikato). Ross and the team were full of energy and provided the swimmers with a wealth of information and support over what was a long three days of competition.
We also had the fantastic support of Team Manager, Sarah Perry from Thames; a big thank you to Sarah and the Coaches for giving up your valuable time to support this initiative.
“It was a real privilege working with the Pathway Squad Swimmers and Coaches over the three days, I have learnt so much and I hope they have also. Seeing the swimmers compete in the Regional colors was really pleasing,especially when they were pushing hard and performing so well in the pool. It was great to see the swimmers representing their region and doing it in such a positive manner each and every session. The feedback we have received from coaches, technical officials and from parents has been really encouraging and testament to the hard work of the swimmers, as well as the home and regional squad coaches.
Swimming Waikato would like to thank the home clubs for their support in putting the team together and for helping to make such a difference to the future of swimming in our region. We are truly lucky to have so many people pulling together in the same direction, you guys rock!
