Swimming Waikato are delighted to be working together with Hamilton City Council as both organisations work to provide much needed learn to swim and water safety lessons in the city.
The partnership will see Tamariki from low-decile Primary Schools being offered learn to swim and water safety education at Waterworld during school hours. The project is funded and supported by Sport New Zealand’s and Sport Waikato’s – Tu Manawa funding.
“We have many beautiful aquatic environments here in the Waikato and we want our young people to enjoy them safely now and long into the future; this partnership and many more like it will be is vital to achieving this aim” Darren Ward, CEO
One of the key benefits of lessons at Waterworld is the availability of all year round in-door pool space, this ensures that lessons can continue outside of the Term 1 & 4 windows when pools have historically been mothballed for the cooler months. It’s a fantastic facility with a great learn to swim and water safety team, led by Hamilton Pools Learn to Swim Manager, Chrissy Hunger. Chrissy has been instrumental alongside Wendy Smith of Swimming New Zealand in forging a positive working relationship with Swimming Waikato as we move collectively to supporting more swimming and water safety provision in the Waikato.
