We are absolutely thrilled to walkaway with the Waikato Sport & Active Recreation Partnership Award for our Get Waikato Swimming initiative last night.

We would like to thank the team at Hamilton Aquatics and Swimming New Zealand for their support for getting behind this campaign from the outset. We would also like to thank our sponsors and supporters for their continued backing and for your guidance and insight, without your support, programs like these are just not possible.

Our Get Waikato Swimming, Low-Decile Primary School initiative has already provided thousands of individual swimming and water-safety lessons for tamariki in the Waikato, whilst upskilling and empowering hundreds of school-teachers in the process. This project and many more to come will look to address the many facets of swimming and water safety education in the Waikato, working with those agencies who like Swimming Waikato, want to take responsibility and address this challenge head-on!

“I’m very proud of the team at Swimming Waikato for working so hard on this project, the drive to make it a success has been overwhelming. We of course have had the privilege of working with some incredible collaborators who’s support has gone a long way to launching our Get Waikato Swimming campaign, this award is very much down to their backing”
Darren Ward, CEO

The opportunity to learn key life-skills, such as how to stay safe in and around water should be for ALL.

Thank you to Matthew Cooper, the team at Sport Waikato and the nomination panel for this award and recognising the great work of our team and our partners. Your backing alongside Sport New Zealand gave us the impetus and means to get our project off the ground.

We have a small team at Swimming Waikato but we have big ambitions and this is the very beginning of an exciting journey.
