Alongside our fantastic partners and supporters (Sport Waikato, Swimming New Zealand, WEL Energy Trust Hamilton Aquatics, St Peter’s Swimming Club), we have been successful in implementing our first term of Learn to Swim & Water Safety lessons in low-decile primary schools here in the Waikato. It has been a long term ambition for Swimming Waikato to support the massive demand in our primary schools for LTS & WS provision, with a great team behind us this is now a reality. We are delighted to have provided just under 5,000 individual lessons for Tamariki in Hamilton alone.

The Greater Waikato Region has a tragic record when it comes to drowning rates, therefore education and experience in and around water is vital to ensure we keep our tamariki safe. Giving the gift of swimming competency, will not only act to keep young children safe in water, it also may give them a life long love of water and being active in a multitude of aquatic activities and sports. Access to swimming and water safety opportunities should be for all, not just for those who can afford, therefore we will continue to build on our program moving forward and hopefully open up swimming provision to even more young people in the Waikato.

Thank you to our funders and supporters for helping us to Get Waikato Swimming and to Hamilton Aquatics and St Peter’s Swimming Club for their support in delivering this program. Lastly, thank you to Carla Parry of BPCT for the great logo.
